Power Cuts in Warton

Today I have contacted National Grid to ask for an explanation for the recent power cuts, the full letter is below:

Request for Explanation of Frequent Power Outages in Warton, Warwickshire (Postcode B79 0HU)
I am writing on behalf of residents of Warton, Warwickshire, to express serious concern regarding the frequency and impact of recent unplanned power outages in our community, and to request a comprehensive explanation of the underlying causes and actions being taken to prevent recurrence.

According to the power-cuts tracking portal published by National Grid, over the past three months the B79 0HU area has experienced a series of unplanned outages that have affected all properties in the postcode area on multiple occasions, including the following incidents:

  • 1 February 2026 at 08:12 until 17:57 – Incident INCD-115710-h caused an outage before full restoration;
  • 27 January 2026 at 05:35 until 06:35 – Incident INCD-114990-h resulted in loss of supply;
  • 5 December 2025 (twice) – Incidents INCD-108978-h and INCD-108900-h both occurred on the same day at around 05:04 until 06:42 and 13:35 until 17:26, before being restored;
  • 29 November 2025 at 06:07 until 10:53 – Incident INCD-108212-h;
  • a cluster of outages on 23 November 2025 (at 02:10 (until 07:30 and then at 7:45 until 10:10) and 17 November 2025 at 09:35.

This pattern of repeated faults, with seven separate unplanned incidents in little over ten weeks, has placed considerable strain on residents and businesses especially those working from home. Many households have reported disrupted working arrangements, failure of essential home equipment, food spoilage, and diminished confidence in the resilience of the local network.

While occasional outages are recognised as an operational reality of any electricity distribution network, the frequency, clustering and regular timing of these events suggest that there may be underlying infrastructure, maintenance, or capacity issues that require proactive management and transparent communication.

We respectfully request a detailed written response addressing the following points:

  1. The identified causes of each of the recent outages referenced above, including whether they were due to equipment faults, weather impacts, third-party damage, scheduled maintenance miscommunications, or other factors.
  2. An explanation of why multiple incidents occurred in close succession, particularly in late November, early December and late January.
  3. Details of any systemic issues that have been identified in the local distribution network serving Warton, including fault recurrence, equipment age, or network loading concerns.
  4. Actions undertaken and planned to improve reliability and reduce the likelihood of future outages, including any planned investment or reinforcement work.
  5. Improvements in communication to residents regarding anticipated outages, estimated restoration times and clear causal information, as these have often been absent or limited.

The community places great value on a reliable electricity supply and wishes to understand how National Grid is ensuring network performance in this area. A transparent response would assist in restoring public confidence and help residents plan with greater certainty.
We look forward to a prompt and substantive reply.
Yours

  1. Update: The most recent fault has been caused by a high voltage cable on the Brookmill Estate, these cables were [allegedly] installed by the developers or their sub-contractors. As of 11:30 today National Grid are waiting for the “dig team” to arrive and identify the exact fault.
